My writing began in the early 1970s when someone (I believe it was Bev Walden) suggested I publish a set of student notes that I had written for a class I was teaching. As I had never been very good at courses in school that required a lot of written work (English, History, etc.) the idea of getting published was not taken very seriously by me at the time. But when I was contacted by Matt Fox, President of Reston Publishing in Reston Virginia a subsidiary of Prentice Hall, to write a book I decide to go for it. 

No book comes easily and the first few bordered on torture. I agonized over each sentence but eventually came to realize that editors would fix anything that didn't come out okay. Eventually I would learn the trade and rely less on feedback from the copy editor but still guidance from my editors was much appreciated. I  had many excellent editors over the years including Cliff Newman, Ben Wentzell, Jim Fegen, Don Bettger, Marcia Horton, Dennis Hogan, Gary June, Jackie Wood, PJ Boardman, Pat Ferrier to name a few. Much of any success I may have had is the result of the guidance and efforts of these talented people.

The majority of the books I wrote myself but at times I also teamed up with a coauthor and shared the load and expertise. Where this happened I've included the name of the other author(s) who contributed to the publication.
